Blackthorn welcomes you to the rich tapestry of Celtic music.
Traditional songs of emigration, sea shanties, lively jigs and reels, and ancient airs combine with some of Ireland’s best contemporary songs for a musical experience that captures the history and legend of Ireland and its people.
What makes a Blackthorn show unique is the variety of tunes, tempos and textures. Each member of the band plays multiple instruments, including wooden flute, accordion, tin whistle, five string banjo, cittern, bones and more. These instruments complement the lead vocal of Belfast native Richard McMullan and the band’s tight blend of four part harmony.
Blackthorn has played throughout the Great Lakes region since 1984. Based in Detroit, they can be found regularly at O’Mara’s Pub and Restaurant in Berkley. Other venues include concert halls, universities and festivals, including main stage appearances at the prestigious Michigan Irish Festival and world renowned Milwaukee Irish Fest.
The concert begins at 7pm. Transportation via chair lift or six-passenger golf cart begins at 6pm. Cash bar and snacks are available for purchase. Coolers are not permitted.
In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be held in Mountain Flowers Lodge.

Since the 1960s, Jackson Browne has combined artistry and advocacy. One of the most literate songwriters in popular music, Browne uses music to convey message that are deeply personal and political in nature. Browne’s many accolades include inductions to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
Accompanying Jackson on the road this summer are longtime band mates Val McCallum (guitar), Mauricio Lewak (Drums), Jeff Young (keyboards), Bob Glaub (bass), Alethea Mills (Vocals) and the acclaimed multi-instrumentalist Greg Leisz (guitar, lap steel, pedal steel).
“This is my ideal band, with some of my favorite players, whose combined gifts provide the musical foundation and emotional underpinnings of my new songs,” says Jackson. “The interplay between Val McCallum and Greg Leisz—the effortlessness of their chemistry is a gift really, that just dropped into my lap. I feel fortunate to have them out on the road for this tour.”
Imagine: A warm summer evening, beautiful Green Lake and the debut performance of the 2016 World Youth Symphony Orchestra! Under the direction of conductor JoAnn Falletta, WYSO will perform selections evoking both moving and stationary images: Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and a suite from Shostakovich’s score for the film The Gadfly.
JoAnn Falletta currently serves as artistic director for the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, a position she has held for the past 15 years. Beyond her commitment to the Buffalo Philharmonic, Falletta is in high demand as a guest conductor, appearing at the helm of internationally recognized orchestras such as the London Symphony, China National Symphony and Orchestra National de Lyon. Falletta is also a leading advocate of youth musicians and women conductors.
