Winter Songs & Carols Concert – December 8, 2017

Winter Songs & Carols Concert
The Manitou Winds presents its annual “Winter Songs & Carols” concert at the Leelanau School dining hall. This performance is sponsored by the Glen Arbor Art Association’s Manitou Music Festival. The concert is free. Reservations are not required. A goodwill offering will be taken, proceeds from which will be directed to the Leelanau School arts program and future Manitou Winds recording projects.

This year’s program features songs of Advent, Winter Solstice, and Christmas intertwined with readings of poetry and prose. Manitou Winds is comprised of five musicians playing 12 different instruments to create a collage of music textures and styles. Joining the Manitou Winds are guest vocalists Christy Burich and Emily Curtin Culler.

More than a concert filled with holiday-themed music, “Winter Songs & Carols” explores a holiday season enriched by many traditions. This year, the group hopes to bring comfort and joy to those who may be having trouble feeling jolly this holiday season with songs and music that focuses on “how winter can be the gateway to a time of healing, peace, and renewal,” said Manitou Winds Founder Jason McKinney.

For more information about the “Winter Songs & Carols” concert, please contact the Glen Arbor Art Association at 231/334-6112.

The Homestead – Feast of Seven Fishes – December 23, 2016

Celebrated around the world on Christmas Eve, the Feast of Seven Fishes is known as La Vigilia, Italian for “The Vigil” in wait of the midnight Christmas birth.

A Southern Italian tradition, the menu consists of fish and pasta with a fasting from meat for the Roman Catholic holiday.

The numerology represents the seven sacraments and seven days of creation.

Chef Piombo offers his interpretation of this celebrated meal albeit one week early, putting history and tradition together on one table with his favorite seven fishes.

Advance reservations required.
